Purpose: Scholars ages of 4-6 will be challenged to build different structures found in the real world using Legos. Scholars will be challenged to think outside the box. At the end of the year, a competition will be hosted to showcase their improved LEGO building skills.

Purpose: Math Kangaroo is an annual international mathematical competition. Math Kangaroo's focus is on improving scholars' math scores and teaching them new strategies for solving word and logic problems, helping them with critical thinking and gaining confidence in the classroom.
Olympiad Team - Geography (4-5)

Purpose: The Geography Olympiad participants will compete in the annual International Geography Bee. Students will compete through an online qualifying exam that will test their knowledge of world geography. Students who qualify, will be able to move on to the Regionals level and try for Nationals.
UIL Storytelling (2-3)

Purpose: To tell a story, the participant must develop skills in listening, interpretative thinking and speaking. Students are read a story, which they must then tell back to the judges. Preparing for this contest also allows for the development of creative expression and self-confidence. Selected students from the campus level will participate in the District UIL Competition in Spring 2025.

Purpose: The benefits of chess are well documented for players of all ages, and especially for young people. Chess teaches problem solving, hones concentration and encourages analytical and strategic thinking. Chess can be a lifelong pursuit. Chess puzzle solving introduces students to the study of chess in a format that can be easily implemented in A+ school programs and district meets.
Selected students from the campus level will participate in the District UIL Competition in Spring 2025.

UIL Spelling (3-5) & Dictionary Skills (5)

Purpose: UIL spelling will give students exposure to a wide variety of vocabulary words. We will learn meanings, definitions, and root words while preparing to spell in the UIL spelling competition.
5th grade scholars will also have the opportunity to compete in the Dictionary Skills Competition. Thorough knowledge of the dictionary is a way to increase a student’s ability to find the information that is needed for class work as well as everyday living.
Selected students from the campus level will participate in the District UIL Competition in Spring 2025.
UIL Ready Writing (3-5)

Purpose: In the Ready Writing Contest, the students are given two hours to write expository compositions. They have a choice between two prompts, each an excerpt from literature, publications (past and present) or speeches. Selected students from the campus level will participate in the District UIL Competition in Spring 2025.
UIL Number Sense & Math Olympiad (4-5)

Purpose: 2 teams in 1! Students will participate in UIL Number Sense & Math Olympiad:
Number Sense -Every day, individuals are called upon to use their ability to make quick mental calculations to make decisions. The development of such abilities is an integral part of the math curriculum.
Math Olympiad -The objectives of Math Olympiad are to teach multiple strategies for out-of-the-box problem solving, develop mathematical flexibility in solving those problems, and foster mathematical creativity and ingenuity.
